From the ASM mBio blog mBiosphere: Strep pneumoniae survival on surfaces

The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) is really doing a great job of moving into new forms of science communication.  For example, ASM has a relatively new journal mBIO that is sort of akin to PLoS One – it is an open access and relatively rapid publication journal.  And mBIO is starting to take off.  Plus mBIO has it’s own blog “mBiosphere“.

All of that is probably pointless if there were not interesting papers in mBio and posts on  mBiosphere.  But there are.  For example check out: mBiosphere: Strep pneumoniae survives weeks on surfaces, remains infectious.  This post discusses a new mBio paper on Streptococcus pneumoniae survival on surfaces – clearly of direct relevance to studies of microbiology of the built environment.

mBio and mBiosphere are definitely worth keeping an eye on (I have added it to the microBEnet blogroll so you will see posts from it show up in the sidebar occasionally).
