New Opportunities at USGBC:Thought Leadership and Research on Building MaterialsGoogleJob

Understanding, communicating and analyzing building materials is a critical frontier for the green building industry. Google has recently provided a generous grant to USGBC to, in part, advance thought leadership and applied research in this area.

As part of this project, USGBC is inviting applications for two new opportunities.

  1. Up to three grants for Senior Research Fellows to engage in synthetic research, advise USGBC staff, and advance the technical dialog around these issues. Established and up-and-coming leaders in academia, non-profits, and industry are encouraged to apply. Learn more.
  2. Up to two new jobs for postdoctoral researchers interested in materials science, health impacts, and/or information technology. If you are finishing a graduate program or looking for something new, please apply. Learn more.

Senior Research Fellows
The Senior Research Fellows and postdocs will work closely with USGBC to address a number of important issues related to materials science, toxicology, green chemistry, human health risk assessment, and information technology. These current and emerging leaders will be encouraged to step away from the laboratory bench and work at the intersection between science and cutting edge green building practice.

The Senior Research Fellows will also look across disciplinary boundaries to review, synthesize and analyze technical literature. They will also serve as advisors on materials issues in the development and documentation of the LEED v4 rating system. The grants will provide the opportunity to engage with USGBC staff and act as national thought leaders, including travel and convening events. Senior Fellows are welcome to remain at their home institutions or spend time at USGBC’s headquarters in Washington, DC.

Postdoctoral researchers
The postdoctoral researchers will be embedded with USGBC staff at the USGBC headquarters office in Washington, DC. The researchers will have a unique opportunity to work on both synthetic research and applied problem solving. They will have opportunities to conduct technical literature reviews, analyze project data, and envision new metrics and guidelines. They will be encouraged to publish in peer-reviewed journals, contribute to social media, and engage with the wide range of stakeholders interested in these important issues.
