Faculty position in Food Microbiology at UC Davis

The Department of Food Science & Technology in the Robert Mondavi Institute of Wine and Food Sciences at UC Davis has an open Assistant Professor faculty position in the area of food microbiology focused on genetics/genomics/metagenomics/ecology of foodborne pathogens. Please note that no prior experience in Food Science is required and we encourage any candidate with an excellent background in microbiological research to consider this position.

The Robert Mondavi Institute at UC Davis houses the Food Science & Technology and Viticulture & Enology departments and resides next to the campus vineyards on the south end of the UC Davis campus. The institute is comprised of faculty representing a range of disciplines with a long history of collaboration and interaction to address the challenges of delivering a safe, nutritious and healthy food supply to an ever increasing world population. In short, interdisciplinary research common to microBE is an everyday occurrence in the Robert Mondavi Institute.

There is a very strong microbiology/microbial ecology research focus within the institute with ongoing research spanning food-gut health to the physics of microbial detection to microbe-based energy generation from food waste streams. The associated Viticulture and Enology department has faculty focused on plant-associated microbiome science, yeast genetics/systems biology and fermentation engineering.

The institute houses the UC Davis Food Safety and Measurement Facility and Phaff Yeast collection–the fourth largest yeast collection in the world. In addition, the institute houses a separate Food Processing Lab, Milk Processing Lab, Brewery, Teaching & Research Winery and the Jess S. Jackson Sustainable Winery Building, all of which enhance faculty teaching and research opportunities.

UC Davis, and the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, is routinely ranked as the top agricultural research university in the world. Combined with the College of Biological Sciences and preeminent Medical and Veterinary Schools, UC Davis houses an incredible array of applied and basic biological research and an ideal environment to pursue an academic career.
