The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) are seeking highly motivated applicants for postdoctoral position in epidemiological analyses of microbial exposures and respiratory health.
The position will focus in characterizing early-life indoor microbial exposures affecting asthma risk. The work comprises two lines of projects where one is centered on microbes that may mediate the adverse health effects of indoor dampness and the other on microbes that may protect from asthma. All the work builds on existing data from globally unique compilation of prospectively followed birth cohorts from different countries. The fellow will perform statistical analyses, draft manuscripts and drive harmonization birth cohort datasets obtained from multiple study centers around the world. The work is carried out in a team of leading researchers in indoor microbiota science and epidemiology supported by experts in bioinformatics, statistics, data management and extensive global collaboration network of collaboration as well as state of the art laboratory facilities with accredited procedures. The position is for fixed-term from August 2021 until the end of 2022 with 3 month probation period. The position is shared between the Environmental Health Unit at THL and Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition, Faculty of Health Sciences at the UEF both located at the same campus in Kuopio, Finland. The successful applicant will have a work contract to both institutions.
