DESCRIPTION:Stewardship of Antimicrobial Use in Livestock\nOctober 6\, 2015\nUC Davis:  Gladys Valley Hall\nSchool of Veterinary Medicine \n  \nFrom Web Site: \nThe UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine will host a workshop focusing on stewardship of antimicrobial use in livestock on October 6th\, as part of 12 workshops organized nationally by Farm Foundation\, NFP. \nThe workshop is an opportunity for livestock producers\, their feed suppliers and veterinarians to gain understanding of new guidelines  issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the use of medically-important antimicrobial drugs in food-producing animals\, as well as the FDA’s revised Veterinary Feed Directive. \nIndustry leaders view these policy changes critical to public and animal health\, ensuring consumer confidence in food safety and the viability of the animal agriculture industry in the U.S.  Successful implementation of these new directives relies on providing information to producers so they can adapt their practices\, and the ability of veterinarians to provide the additional oversight needed. \nThe workshop will include presentations by producer leaders\, the local veterinary community and representatives from the regional feed industry\, as well as comments from officials of the FDA and USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspections Service (APHIS). Participants will have the opportunity to identify and discuss the management challenges ahead. \nThe workshop is free.
