We’ve recently received an award from the Sloan Foundation to examine the mycobiota from paired house dust and infant fecal samples collected in the first year of life. The main purpose of the study is to examine how the immediate environment (house dust) may shape the gut mycobiota of infants and affect immune activation and development of asthma and allergies. This project will be carried out in parallel with our NIAID-funded study led by Dr. Christine Johnson (Henry Ford Hospital) which will examine bacterial communities found in the same samples (see blog posting from June 18, 2013).
The Lynch Lab is primarily interested in understanding microbiome-host interactions in both the pulmonary and gastrointestinal tracts of patients with chronic inflammatory diseases. Our group focuses on understanding the contributions of microbiota composition, structure and function to disease state and developing novel microbiome-based therapeutics for these conditions.
