The Department of Statistics at Oregon State University is hosting a summer REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program that focuses on microbiome data analysis. This is a unique, paid research and training opportunity for STEM undergraduate students who want an interdisciplinary research experience in both biology and statistics. During a ten week training period, students will be exposed to the entire workflow for the analysis of DNA sequence data that has been generated from gut microbiome samples. The students will study how the gut microbiome is influenced by environmental conditions and how it associates with health. Students will also work closely with an interdisciplinary team of faculty to develop skills in data quality control, data visualization, and statistical and bioinformatics techniques.
