2015 Rapid NGS Bioinformatic Pipelines for Enhanced Molecular Epidemiologic Investigation of Pathogens (Washington, DC)

September 24, 2015 - September 27, 2015

Next generation sequencing (NGS) of pathogens whole genomes is revolutionizing the science behind clinical diagnostics, epidemiology, and the field of microbiology in general. Never before have scientists had access to, and been able to analyze and compare thousands of complete genomic sequences of bacteria, parasites and viruses. This vast amount of genomic data permits a better understanding of virulence traits, adaptability to food manufacturing environments, geographical traceability and transmission to humans, along with a host of other valuable information. Conference speakers will provide a ‘how-to’ with current examples in the use of NGS technology for applied results in the traceability and clustering of microbial pathogens associated with food safety, clinical infection, environmental contamination, and other potential sources of disease outbreaks. ‘How-to’ topics of interest will cover laboratory, bioinformatics, and epidemiological resources available to the audience.
